As I write this, the temperature is heading to 95 degrees. It is August in one of the hottest years on record. We are all adapting, which is such a healthy human trait.
Despite the heat, I will attend the Farmers Market in Claremont on Sunday, August 6. It happens to be my late father’s birthday.
He died young, at 63. To me, he seemed so alive until the end. We gathered around his in-home hospital bed to joke with his third wife. I was always proud to introduce him to my friends even then.
He was always inquisitive and polite to anyone I brought around. He once talked to my Iranian dorm roommate for three hours. There was always something new to learn about him. He was the classic case of us discovering who he was when my siblings and I went through all his stuff after he died.
My father was a salesman. Where did I get it from? As a kid, I sometimes didn’t believe what he said because there was a BS factor about him. After he died, we saw proof that he went to Columbia, studied astronomy, enjoyed magic, traveled the world, and joined the Navy as a 17-year-old in 1945, lying about his age. His legacy lives on with heart disease for two out of three brothers.
At present, my website is coming along. It is super exciting, and I am enjoying building it myself. There might be a formal launch to lure people in to see it.
I can see teaching Business and website-building courses in the future.
The Mother Earth Market is again at the Anaheim Packing District on September 23.
Salad Bowl Dress will launch a course on simple updates for your wardrobe this month!
This Fall, I will give a talk about Fashion and Climate Change for the League of Women Voters for their open enrollment luncheon.
Mark your calendars for the Artistic License event at the beautiful Muckenthaler of Artisans from all over the county on Nov. 3rd and 4th weekend.
Stay calm, drink lots of water, and swim somewhere.
